Liners & Underlay

An essential part of any pond construction is laying the right foundations. Using a solid and reliable pond liner stops water from leaking out of the pond and into any soil. For pond liners to work correctly, it’s a good idea to use a pond underlay first. Pond underlay will offer an extra layer of protection when building a pond and give your water feature the right start so it lasts for many years. 

Pond underlay helps to protect the pond lining from pieces of debris or rock that may be in the soil when you dig out a pond. It’s common to find that as you’re building a pond, the further you go into the earth, the harder the ground can be. This is where potentially damaging stones or rough corners may be, which can penetrate your pond lining and lead to leaks. A good pond underlay is an impermeable sheet, usually made from polyester or polypropylene. These manmade materials do not rot easily, which is why they make an excellent pond underlay to sit beneath your pond liner.
